Frequently Asked Questions

  • Direct primary care (DPC) is a membership-based model of primary care in Asheville. Your membership covers all visits and communication with our team, with no copays or surprise bills. We don’t bill insurance for visits, which allows us to focus fully on your care.

You can still use insurance for labs, imaging, medications, specialist care, and hospital services. By keeping our patient panel smaller, we’re able to provide more time, better access, and personalized care.

  • Direct primary care changes the doctor-patient relationship for the better.

Many people leave traditional visits feeling rushed or unheard. We believe everyone deserves more than a 15-minute appointment. With a membership model, we have the time to be thorough, thoughtful, and collaborative. Patients leave visits feeling heard, informed, and clear on next steps.

  • Your membership includes all primary care services through Redwood Primary Care in Asheville, including:

    • Preventive and annual visits

    • Chronic condition management

    • Sick and urgent visits

    • A variety of in-office procedures

    • Secure messaging, phone, and telehealth visits

We’re available after hours and on weekends for urgent issues, and telehealth often helps patients avoid costly urgent care or emergency room visits.

  • Direct primary care is a flat monthly membership fee. There are no copays, deductibles, or visit-based charges.

Because pricing is transparent and predictable, many patients find DPC comparable to—or less than—their annual out-of-pocket costs in traditional primary care.

Monthly rates to be announced soon.

  • Direct primary care is often a great fit for people who value access, time, and an ongoing relationship with their physician.

It works especially well for patients who:

    • Want longer, unrushed visits

    • Have chronic conditions

    • Prefer direct communication with their doctor

    • Feel frustrated or overlooked in traditional healthcare

Instead of paying per visit, you’re investing in continuous, relationship-based care.

  • Yes. While we don’t bill insurance for our services, you can use insurance for:

    • Specialist visits

    • Imaging (X-rays, MRIs, CT scans)

    • Hospital care

    • Lab work (when billed externally)

    • Prescription medications

For patients on high-deductible or catastrophic insurance plans, DPC can work together with your plan to provide more comprehensive coverage.

  • Direct primary care provides consistent, affordable access to primary care without insurance.

We can also help patients find lower-cost options for labs, imaging, and medications, and help you decide when outside or specialty care is necessary.

  • We order labs, imaging, and prescriptions just like a traditional primary care office.

When possible, we help patients access transparent, lower-cost options, including cash-pay pricing when it’s more affordable than insurance. We’ll walk through options together so you can make informed decisions.

  • Most patients can be seen same day or next day for urgent concerns, at or primary care office in Asheville. Because we limit our patient panel, timely access is a core part of our care model.

We also use telehealth, phone, and secure messaging when appropriate, which often means faster answers without an in-office visit.

  • Yes. We offer same-day or urgent visits whenever possible and are available after hours and on weekends for urgent concerns.

  • Yes. We provide evidence-based care for perimenopause and menopause, including hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options.

You don’t need expensive or unnecessary testing, and you don’t need to suffer—there are effective treatments available. This stage of life is also an opportunity to focus on long-term health, strength, and quality of life.

  • Healthcare anxiety is common and very real.

In this practice, care is grounded in transparency, clear communication, respect for boundaries, and allowing you to set the pace. We explain options, talk through decisions, and adjust care to help you feel safe and supported.

If you have healthcare anxiety or past medical trauma, we encourage you to schedule an introductory call to see if this approach feels right for you.

  • We regularly coordinate care with specialists and are happy to communicate with outside offices.

We can also help patients identify specialists when needed. We’re fortunate to work within a strong medical community in Asheville and value collaborative care.

  • While both models offer more time and access, direct primary care typically:

    • Does not bill insurance

    • Has lower membership fees than concierge practices

    • Focuses on accessibility and affordability

    • Emphasizes primary care rather than luxury services

Our goal is to provide high-quality, personalized primary care in Asheville that is accessible and sustainable.

  • We care for adults across a wide range of life stages. Our focus is long-term, relationship-based primary care that adapts to your needs over time.

  • We want this to feel like a supportive partnership, not an obligation.

If you decide to leave the practice, you can cancel your membership according to our policy. We’ll help ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care.
